Theming Thunderbird To Look Like Postler by a12dhie Theming Thunderbird To Look Like Postler by a12dhie
I like elementary desktop's mail client Postler because it's simple, clean look and fast, but Postler has a limited features, Thunderbird offers balanced performance-feature and highly customized appearance via "userChrome.css"

To make Thunderbird appearance to look like above image, I want to share you about the steps I found to customize it (Finally!! XD), please follow these 9 steps :

1. You need to install Elementary GTK & Icon theme ( just search it on Google or Deviantart )
2. Download Elementary.human 1.3 theme for Thunderbird (search it on Thunderbird Add-ons manager and Apply it
3. Enable the autohide tab, goto menu: Edit-Preferences, and select "Advanced" and select the "General" tab, then click "Config Editor" button, answer the question by clicking the "Il'l be carefull, I promise" button, on the config editor windows search for "mail.tabs.autoHide" and set the value to "True, this should hide the tab-bar when only one tab open. (you can hide the status bar too if you want more cleaner look by selecting menu: View - uncheck the status bar)
4. Download another Add-on called "Compact Menu" (just search it on Add-ons manager, install and apply it.
5. Arrange the toolbar button by right-click in the main toolbar and select "customize",select "icon" from dropdown list to hide text then add or remove the corresponding button by dragging onto the main toolbar (see above image) + drag the "Compact menu" button next to the searcbar (don't forget to hide the menubar by right-clicking on the toolbar and un-check the "menubar")
6. You can change Compact menu button image from extension settings with your favorite icon, I prefer the "gear" icon from the elementary icon theme.
7. To shrink the search bar I drag the "flexible space" from the customize toolbar dialog (see No.4), add more "flexible space" until you get the searchbar shrink, this is the stupid way I think (Because I haven't found the CSS code yet ;P).

8. The "userChrome.css" is located on /home/user/.thunderbird/profiles/chrome/ folder ( manually create "chrome" folder and "userChrome.css" file if it's not exist ) edit the file using text-editor and paste this css code:

/*------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/
@namespace url("[link]");
/* set default namespace to XUL */

/* hide the folderpane splitter, sleek look */
#folderpane_splitter {
visibility: collapse;
}

/* hide folderpaneane header, more simplified look */
#folderPaneHeader {
visibility: collapse;
background-color: #dedede !important;
border-right: 1px solid #b3b3b3 !important;
font-size: 12px #dedede !important;
max-height: 6px !important;
}

/* color the folderpaneane header background and add a thin gray border */
#folderTree treechildren {
padding-top: 4px;
padding-right: 4px;
background-color: #dedede !important;
border-right: 1px solid #b3b3b3 !important;
}

#messagepanebox {
border-top: 0px solid gray !important;
border-left: 0px solid #b3b3b3 !important;
border-right: 0px solid gray !important;
border-bottom: 0px solid #b3b3b3 !important;
}

/*hide threadpane borders so they don't overlap with folderpane border*/
#folderTree {
-moz-appearance: none !important;
}

#threadTree{
-moz-appearance: none !important;
}
/*------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/

9. Finally, save it and restart Thunderbird and see what happened!!

That's all I can share with you right now, I hope you'll like it.

Regards,

a12dhie
